IoS 12- At glance
For technology enthusiasts and diehard Apple fans, the Worldwide Developers conference(WWDC) is a highlight of every year. Apple displays its new software and technologies for software developers in week long event and attendees can participate with Apple engineers and attend in-depth discussions over topics of whole range “ from how apple works as a IT model to what tech and machines they use”. In recent years the WWDC has almost always been about the latest iPhone, but this year’s event was centered at iOS 12.
This year also the conference began on June 4 with Boss Tim Cook’s keynote and presents all the new features and many product enhancements coming to Apple’s product range.
The launch speech by CEO Tim Cook started as “iOS 12 is designed to make your iPhone and iPad experience even faster, more responsive and more delightful.”
These are believed to be reliable words as apple have doubled the performance,
worked on almost all angles from top to bottom to make iPhones and iPads faster and more responsive.
What’s new in iOS 12:-
1. Performance:-
Craig Federighi; Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, said Apple is “doubling down on performance”, iOS 12 will be more fast and efficient on all devices. Apple have included several new features focussing majorly on performance and reliability.
Apple has worked on optimizing the operating system and performance gains when device under load.
Animations had made smoother and more responsive, so when task is performed everything feels more fluid.
when OS detects that a burst of performance is required, performance elevates quickly and then comes down to preserve battery life.
2. Photos:–
The Photos app in iOS 12 is updated with better performance and powerful search, restaurants, cars, cards, etc, by name or by broad categories. Search suggestions allows you to search even before you type, offering suggestion on places you’ve taken photos, events, categories such as hiking, photos indexing millions of events.
A new tab “For You” has been added to the Photos app, offering up a selection of Memories, shared albums, photos of the current day in past years, effects suggestions.
New tools are applied to make import of photos easier. The “Shared Suggestions” feature recognizes who is in a photo and suggests sharing the images with that person making it easy to exchange photos linked to an event.
3. Maps:-
This is bold step taken by apple in iOS 12, Apple has decided to stop relying on third-parties and gather all the data itself to improve Maps…..
Yeah..! that’s right
Apple is renovating the Apple Maps from level 0; using fragments of trips gathered by iPhones, satellites, and the Apple Maps that have been wandering the streets around the world for years now.
Though still in hood. Apple new Map will have much better visual features, traffic information, road construction, change in pedestrian walkways, etc
More focus will be centred towards pedestrian navigation.
4. News:-
It is redesigned to make it more compatible with ipad. It gets a new Browser tab to make it easier to use, discover new channels and topics.
And there’s a new sidebar for quick navigation.
5. Voice memos:–
This too has been redesigned for ipad. It has been made easier to use with iCloud support so all voice recordings can be uploaded and stored.
6. iBooks :–
It gets a new name APPLE BOOKS and gets new feature: READING NOW which keep track of your place across multiple books and includes suggestions on additional books to explore.
7. Notifications:–
iOS 12 allows greater control over the notifications with a new Instant Tuning feature. Siri will also suggest turning off notifications you’re no longer using.
Now notifications can be cleared by group, which is a useful for managing long lists of notifications.
It also gets CRITICAL ALERT features which will allow select apps to send notifications that will ignore Do Not Disturb settings.
The coolest new features:-
1 . Augmented reality:- As part of the iOS 12 update, Apple is launching ARKit 2. Which is more powerful and improved version or ARKit.
It allows developers to create augmented reality experiences within iOS apps and games. A new file format, USDZ, is designed in partnership with Pixar, which optimizes for sharing while retaining 3D graphics and animations.
ARKit 2.0 centered at improved persistent experience, and shared experiences.
Finally, ARKit will allow shared experiences which will allow to play augmented reality games and use augmented reality apps alongside friends for a true multiplayer augmented reality experience.
2. SIRI:- Apple overhauled Siri in a unique way in iOS 12, it gets new feature named shortcuts. With a new Siri Shortcuts feature, Any app can add Shortcuts. Personalised shortcuts can be created on shortcut app for the surf time.
3. Messages :- The biggest changes to Messages revolve around Animoji, iOS 12 brings new Animoji features like tongue detection, wink detection and better face tracking. There are also new Animoji options, including Ghost, Koala, Tiger, and T-Rex, and at the end of the Animoji drawer there will be a plus sign(+), customizable personal image animoji called Memoji
With the new features and highlights apple have made IoS 12 more friendly and people around the globe are eagerly waiting for it to come in market.
